FSCD Services
The FSCD program works with eligible families to provide support and services based on each child and family’s needs. As an FSCD vendor, we at CarePros are able to help your family understand your coverage, facilitate coverage, and answer any questions you have regarding your child’s care.

FSCD - Eligibility
To be eligible for the Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program, families must meet several criteria.
Age and Residency Criteria
For your family to be eligible for the Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program:
- Your child with a disability must be under 18 years of age
- Your child must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- The child must reside in Alberta
Disability Criteria
You must also have medical documentation confirming your child has a:
- Diagnosis for a disability that is due to a developmental, physical, sensory, mental or neurological condition or impairment.,
- Health condition that impacts their daily living activities such as eating, grooming, walking, interacting with others, playing and problem solving.
FSCD - What You get
To be eligible for the Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program, families must meet a number of criteria.
Services and Supports
Families who are eligible for the Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program may receive:
- Information about government programs and services, community supports and local resources.
- Help coordinating and getting supports and services.
- Help with some of the costs to take your child to medical appointments such as parking, mileage, meals, accommodations, and sibling care.
- Respite services in or outside your home to give you a temporary break.
- Help from aides who provide personal care, community, behavioural or developmental support.
- Temporary living arrangements for your child away from home.
- Help with some costs for medications, prescribed diets, ambulance services, or medical supplies.
- Specialized services for children with severe disabilities.
- The same FSCD worker assigned to a family with more than 1 eligible child
- Help planning your child’s transition during key changes or life events

Needs Assessment
If your child is eligible for the FSCD program, an FSCD worker will meet with you after you apply to discuss:
- Your child’s specific needs.
- The impact your child’s disability has on your family.
- Other professionals the worker may speak with to understand your child’s needs.
Individualized Family Support Plan
After the needs assessment, your FSCD worker will work with you to create an Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP). It is based on a shared understanding of:
- Your child and family’s strengths, needs and priorities.
- The short and long-term goals for your child’s development and participation at home, school and in the community.
FSCD Services Provided
Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) helps families plan, coordinate and, access services to raise a child with disabilities.
FSCD - Behavioural Care

- A full range of behavioural support services.
- Assistance and care related to disruptive behaviour.
- Community support and relationship development.
- Ideal for children who may be having difficulties following rules.
- Ideal for children having difficulty making friendships.
- Ideal for children having issues with authority figures.
FSCD - 24-7 Respite Services

- A full range of respite services.
- Assistance with extraordinary child care needs related to the child’s disability.
- A range of aide supports.
- Support family centered care for the child at home and/or school.
FSCD - Out-of-Home Services

- Short and Long term Placements.
- Crisis management & emergency resolution.
- Safe & Secure placements.
- 1-to-1 and 2-to-1 care available.
