Therapeutic Foster Caregiving
About Therapeutic Foster Caregiving
Therapeutic Foster Caregiving is a program supported by CarePros and the Alberta government that offers young people aged 13-17 in government care with a family setting that is tailored to their specific needs. The program focuses on building natural support networks and cultural and community connections for youth with complex trauma. Caregivers work closely with young people to support them and help them achieve their goals.
The program follows trauma-informed practices to understand behaviours as symptoms rather than problems. It also emphasizes the importance of building therapeutic relationships, incorporating culturally rooted practices, and facilitating healthy, positive connections that are identified by the youth
Who this Program Supports
The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and its staff members are members of external governing bodies such as the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA) or Alberta College of Social Workers.
